Gen Z dan Ilusi Clicktivism

Generasi muda kerap dipuji sebagai motor perubahan. Namun di era digital, aktivisme sering berhenti di layar gawai.

Senior saya Mbak Bibib hari ini menulis di Kompas antara lain gerakan anak muda kerap dipuji sebagai penanda lahirnya perubahan. Dalam banyak narasi, generasi muda selalu digambarkan sebagai kekuatan moral yang menolak kemapanan, menggugat kekuasaan, dan memelopori arah baru bangsa. Dari Sumpah Pemuda 1928 hingga Reformasi 1998, sejarah Indonesia tampak berulang dengan pola yang sama: ketika tatanan lama beku, muncul sekelompok anak muda yang menyalakan bara perubahan. Kini, di era digital, semangat itu diyakini hidup kembali dalam diri generasi Z, kelompok yang lahir di tengah teknologi, media sosial, dan keterbukaan global. Aktivisme mereka disebut lebih progresif, lebih inklusif, dan lebih cepat beradaptasi dengan isu baru seperti krisis iklim, kesetaraan gender, atau hak digital.

Saya berbeda pendapat.

Jika ditelusuri lebih dalam, keyakinan tersebut mungkin terlalu menyederhanakan kenyataan. Menganggap setiap generasi muda sebagai pelopor perubahan bisa menutup mata terhadap fakta bahwa aktivisme hari ini tidak sepenuhnya memiliki fondasi sosial dan politik sekuat masa lalu. Dahulu, perlawanan muncul dari tekanan nyata seperti kolonialisme, otoritarianisme, dan ketimpangan struktural yang membentuk kesadaran kolektif dan keberanian politik. Sementara itu, aktivisme generasi sekarang tumbuh di ruang digital yang cair, di mana identitas politik mudah dibentuk namun juga mudah menguap.

Mari kita bahas.

Aktivisme digital yang dominan saat ini lebih bersifat ekspresif daripada transformatif. Fenomena clicktivism, yaitu aktivisme berbasis klik dan tanda pagar di media sosial, memungkinkan banyak orang bersuara tanpa memahami secara mendalam substansi isu yang dibicarakan. Dukungan terhadap gerakan sosial kerap menjadi bagian dari pencitraan pribadi, bukan hasil komitmen ideologis yang kuat. Di sinilah letak perbedaannya. Aktivisme masa lalu menuntut pengorbanan nyata: waktu, tenaga, bahkan keselamatan. Kini, perjuangan sering berakhir di layar ponsel.

Ruang digital juga menghadirkan paradoks kebebasan. Semakin terbuka akses informasi, semakin besar pula risiko terjebak dalam arus opini yang dangkal dan emosional. Tidak jarang kampanye sosial kehilangan arah karena berubah menjadi ajang menunjukkan siapa yang paling benar atau paling peduli. Habermas, melalui konsep public sphere atau ruang publik, menegaskan bahwa diskursus rasional adalah inti dari demokrasi. Namun ruang publik digital justru menurunkan mutu perdebatan menjadi sekadar adu persepsi. Dalam kondisi seperti ini, aktivisme generasi Z sering menghasilkan kebisingan tanpa arah politik yang jelas.

Masalah lain terletak pada ketahanan gerakan. Banyak inisiatif sosial anak muda berumur pendek. Mereka muncul cepat, viral, lalu menghilang tanpa meninggalkan struktur yang berkelanjutan. Padahal perubahan sosial memerlukan kesinambungan dan kekuatan kelembagaan. Alexis de Tocqueville dalam Democracy in America pernah mengingatkan bahwa demokrasi tanpa organisasi sipil yang kuat akan melahirkan kebebasan yang rapuh. Fenomena ini terlihat ketika berbagai aksi solidaritas digital gagal berkembang menjadi gerakan politik yang nyata.

Kelemahan ini tidak berarti generasi muda kehilangan potensi perubahan. Justru karena tantangannya berbeda, cara menilai aktivisme pun harus berubah. Generasi Z hidup di dunia yang kompleks dan terfragmentasi, berhadapan dengan politik algoritma, disinformasi, dan tekanan ekspektasi publik yang tinggi. Dalam situasi seperti itu, meminta mereka meniru semangat 1928 atau 1998 mungkin tidak realistis. Namun menempatkan mereka sebagai pewaris otomatis perjuangan masa lalu juga tidak tepat.

Hal yang lebih mendesak adalah menumbuhkan kedalaman berpikir di balik kecepatan bertindak. Aktivisme sejati, dalam bentuk apa pun, diukur bukan dari seberapa keras seseorang bersuara, melainkan seberapa jauh suaranya menciptakan perubahan konkret. Jika ruang digital menjadi panggung utama generasi ini, tantangan terbesarnya adalah menjadikan panggung itu tempat pembentukan kesadaran, bukan sekadar arena pamer kepedulian moral.

Barangkali di sinilah perlunya jeda dari euforia tentang aktivisme baru. Mungkin yang sedang kita saksikan bukan kebangkitan generasi perubahan, melainkan cara baru manusia muda mencari makna di tengah dunia yang terlalu ramai untuk benar-benar mendengar. (*)
